
Marinara style dippin' sauce!

Sweet and Spicy Marinara style Dipping Sauce (with a touch of Old World magic

Ingredients
Sauce
1 (28 oz. can of crushed tomatoes
1 (14.5 ounce) can of diced tomatoes, with juice
2 cloves garlic, minced
1/4 cup olive oil
1/4 cup chopped onion
1/2 tsp Sugar (This will help take that canned taste out of your sauce!)
The Seasoning
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano1/2 teaspoon dried basil1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes (or more to taste!)2 tablespoons honey1 tablespoon balsamic vinegarSalt and black pepper to taste
Intructions
- In a medium saucepan, heat the olive oil over medium heat.
Add the chopped onion and cook until softened, about 5 minutes.
Add the garlic for 30-45seconds
Stir in the crushed tomatoes, diced tomatoes, oregano, basil, and red pepper flakes.
Bring to a simmer and cook for 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the sauce has thickened.
Stir in the honey and balsamic vinegar.
Season with salt and black pepper to taste.
If you want it Smooooth toss it in a food processor for a bit or just strain it.
Notes
- Substitutions
- No crushed tomatoes...no problem! Just use equal parts tomato paste or puree
- If you don't want the sugar...exchange it for a 1/2 tsp of fresh Lemon Juice
