Ingredients
Toasted Panko (Optional, but just do it...Trust me on this!)
- 1 C Panko Breadcrumbs
- 2 Tbsp Butter (Salted)
- 1 tsp dried Italian seasoning mix or your own blend
- 1/2 tsp Garlic Powder
- 1/2 tsp Onion Powder
- 1/4 tsp Paprika
The Halloumi
- 8 ounces halloumi cheese, cut into 1/2-inch thick sticks
- 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 egg, beaten
- 1 cup panko bread crumbs
- Olive Oil/Cooking Spray
Intructions
Panko Prep:
Heat a medium-sized non-stick pan to medium heat and melt the butter.
Mix the herbs with the Panko and toss in the pan.
Stir or shake the pan continuously until the panko starts to turn a light golden brown.
Equipment:
- Air fryer
- 3 shallow dishes
CheeseStick Prep:
Pat the halloumi sticks dry with paper towels.
Breading station: Set up your breading station with three shallow dishes. In the first dish, place the flour. In the second, the beaten egg. In the third, combine the panko breadcrumbs.
Coat the halloumi:
Dip each halloumi stick in the flour, then the egg, and finally the panko breadcrumbs, pressing gently to ensure the crumbs adhere. Let them set for 10-15 mins.
Air fry: Preheat your air fryer to 400°F (200°C) for about 3 minutes. Arrange the breaded halloumi sticks in a single layer in the air fryer basket, ensuring they're not overcrowded.
Lightly coat the sticks with Olive oil cooking spray. Air fry for 8-10 minutes, or until golden brown and crispy. Flip the sticks halfway through cooking for even browning.
Serve immediately: Devour these gooey delights with your favorite dipping sauce or use my Marinara recipe!
Notes
- Substitutions
- You could use regular ol' Mozzarella or String Cheese, but the Halloumi doesn't melt and provides a soft and gooey texture.
- Crispy Low-Cal Option:
- Scrap the Panko! Spray the Halloumi with Olive Oil and throw in the air-fryer for 10-12 minutes on 400 for a lower-calorie crispy stick. Make sure to flip 1/2 way through!
